Andrew
is the libpcap library you are using able to capture packets properly? Can you try to gdb ntop and see if something is being capture/discarded?

Hi,

I need some assistance, I have setup ntop before in the past and had it work great. As of recently I was able to get it working on 1 machine but not any other. I am using Debian 6.0.0 on the working machine and Debian 6.0.2.1 on the new ones. I can get ntop to work and start just fine but it will sometimes do packet capturing, and then the rest of the time it just does nothing...

The scenario I have setup is this:

Dell PC

Integrated NIC (management interface) Intel e100

Packet capture interface (also has an IP address) Intel Pro V/1000 (e1000)

Routing is setup to go through the integrated NIC so that I can install other packages from the debian apt repos.

nTop is setup to monitor eth0 (Intel Pro V/1000 (e1000)) card, and nothing else. I'm not sure why it does this, for a while Debian would make default gateway go out packet capture interface. Not sure why.

By the way the package I installed this from is from debian backports, I have also tried the Debian Wheezy (unstable) version as well.

Not sure what else to do, am I missing a package that needs to be installed? Another packet capturing daemon? I really need this to work, is this a problem in version 4.0.3?

I have set eth0 to promisc mode and turned it off thinking that would help.

This is monitoring all internet and local traffic from my network.

Thanks in advance.
