Weird!  So in DB terms you can update but not insert?  I've never heard of DB 
related issues....  If you wish I can send you my prefs file, or you can send 
me yours with a few edits you want and I'll see if it works on my system.

Additional information.  I can change the value of an existing entry in
the preferences and it is reflected in the db file.  Just can't seem to
add to the list of preferences.
