Hi,

We are a group of students, trying to do research on Deep Packet
Inspection technologies. We found that NTOP provides a suite of products,
which can be used in a telecom operator's infrastructure for traffic
shaping, load balancing, security and real time data analysis. Our current
understanding is that with NTOP, Mobile operators can utilize the existing
infrastructure(No need to buy any dedicated ASIC or FPGA based solutions
and run NTOP based software solutions directly on their exisiting hardware
devices) to achieve these goals. Please confirm if our understanding is
indeed correct. From the software architecture perspective, how these
different pieces(ntopng, nprobe, nDisk, nDPI and PF_RING) fit together,
is another piece of puzzle. Basically we want to develop a distributed
application(based on NTOP based products) which runs on different nodes
in the mobile operator's network, which parses, collect and exposes that
information in real time in a nice Graphical User Interface. Any comments,
guidelines would help us tremendously.

Thanks,
