  I got the same probleme on RH 6.2 and posted a mail a few days ago
(2000/11/03).

  To successfully build this snapshot I had to remove every references to
the empty plugins/pep directory in the Makefiles and config files.

  I join the patch I made.

  But on 2000/11/03 cvs checkout compiled without any problem. Maybe it's
better to ignore this October 26 snapshot.
