Lsof is a program that ntop can use, if it's available. What it does is tell
you the local usage of different processes on the system that it's running
on. If you read the FAQ file, which resides in the directory where you
unzipped ntop into, it will tell you that:
Q. Where can I find lsof?
A. You can download lsof from
ftp://vic.cc.purdue.edu/pub/tools/unix/lsof
Q. How do I force configure to build ntop without
lsof support?
A. configure -enable-lsof=no
----------------------------------
There;s also a couple of other programs(queso, nmap) that are nice to have
prior to building ntop.
Also, I would strongly recommend getting a newer version(CVS is the
best/sometimes worst :) , definitely the newest. If you prefer tgz files,
there's a link to 1.3.2. on the website, which is actually pretty nice.
Good luck
