Gang - it's not something out of the question, at least IMHO...

What would really be needed is some consensus on what needs to be recorded, frequency, 
etc.  And I guess how much post-processing is
acceptable...

For example - ntop runs it's session purge on a timed expire basis.  Would logging 
that data - for the data that's being purged,
check hostTraffic in ntop.h (around line 1665) - before purging it, be what you 
want/need?

If not - there is already a -2 (--no-idle-host-purge) parameter - this prevents 
creation of (and thus execution of) the Idle Hosts
thread (scanIdleLoop() in ntop.c).  Although ntop's tables then grow huge, this 
preserves data for longer.

Let's see some discussion of what you need recorded and then we'll talk...
