Stanley-

no worries - 2.1-1 is 2.1 + a few Makefile changes. We had some confusion
between Luca and myself - I called it 2.1-1, he called it 2.1.1.

With the latest release, 2.1.2, we've cleaned up the confusion. Still, the
differences between 2.1 and 2.1.2 are slight - documented at SourceForge if
you need to see them.

I'll address the FreeBSD issue later - I think I have a guess... (hint

Subject: Re: [Ntop] [FreeBSD 4.5-R]NTOP Won't Run As A Daemon

Dear Sir,

I am writing to say that I am not having any problems with ntop-2.1.0
running as a daemon on FreeBSD 4.6-RELEASE-p10.

I have built ntop from source using static linking with the supplied (in
the tgz) versions of zlib libpng and gdchart - following the directions
in the README; I may have different versions of these installed
separately but am not knowledgable enough to have ntop use them.

In my case I am using almost certainly older versions of autoconf and
automake but I found they were only necessary should I want to modify
configure.in (in a vain attempt to build the RMON plugin). In all the
production instances, the supplied configure worked fine.

ALthough the tgz identifies itself as ntop-2.1-1, the version reported
by the about llink on the web pages is 2.1.0.

I have 6 copies of ntop all running on modest hardware under the same
release of FreeBSD. Both daemonisation and stability are not a problem.

Yours sincerely.
