I realized this after I read the FAQ. So I have already done this twice and
also made sure I did make and make install just in case. I still get the
following:

> /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgd
> collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
> make[2]: *** [libntop.la] Error 1
> make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/ntop-2.1.3/ntop'
> make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
> make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/ntop-2.1.3/ntop'
> make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
