You seem to be under the impression (mistakenly) that somehow you are "owed" a response just because you sent a message.

The mailing lists are a community based resource.  If you never got an answer, then perhaps nobody understood or had a response about your question.

In fact, I did reply - on Fri 9/13/2002 11:35 AM - check the index:  http://lists.ntop.org/pipermail/ntop/2002-September/thread.html

If you have questions or issues, please send a message to the list with a meaningful (i.e. related) subject - the reason for that is so that others can find the solution to their problems in the archives.

Subject: [Ntop] Re: FreeBSD (et al) and the .deps problem

I have been working with ntop on FreeBSD for a while - a couple of years now. I trak the changes to Ntop and try to upgrade to get the latest features. I started having problems related to this:

 gmake[2]: Entering directory
`/usr/local/download/ntop-cvs/ntop/plugins'=20
Makefile:353: .deps/icmpPlugin.Plo: No such file or directory=20
Makefile:354: .deps/icmpPlugin.so.Po: No such file or directory=20
Makefile:355: .deps/lastSeenPlugin.Plo: No such file or directory=20...

However, when I upgraded automake, autoconf, etc.. to the latest recommended versions the problems went away. So here is what I am running now:

ntop v.2.1.51 MT (SSL) [i386-unknown-freebsd4.5] (12/12/02 12:10:25 PM build)

The only problem is that I can't get rrdplugin to work.  With ntop 2.1.51, rrdplugin compiles but does not start with ntop, I get this error message:

20/Jan/2003 08:52:40 WARNING: unable to load plugin '/usr/local/lib/ntop/plugins/rrdPlugin.so'
[/usr/local/lib/ntop/plugins/rrdPlugin.so: Undefined symbol "rrd_test_error"]

everything else works fine.

I also managed to compile ntop 2.1.52 on FreeBSD 4.5, but here it fails to compile rrdplugin.  I have rrdtool 1.0.40 with the source code and headers installed on the machine.

I have been having problems with ntop for a while now but did not send a message to the list because I sent other messages related to how ntop reads TCPDUMP files and never got a reply.

Thanks,

Efarah
