Data collection and display are separate. Data collection runs while ntop
is running.

However, remember that inactive hosts are purged, so if it's a small
network, your prior activity may be purged as "idle hosts". There's a flag
to set if you want to disable it - check the man page or configuration page
on the web interface.

Subject: [Ntop] Question regarding data collecting & storing

Hi,

When I start ntop, (ntop -d -P /tmp/ntop),
does ntop start collecting stats and storing them from when I press enter?
Or does it wait for me to connect to it through a web browser?

Cause when I connect to ntop through a web browser I see stats being
collected and I'm doing things to make sure it is actually working.
When I close my browser and start it back up again about 30mins later none
of the information is there from when I was connected to it before.
Is this how ntop works??? Is it only a real-time thing, with no history??? I
have not done a "Reset Stats"

Am I missing something here??

Regards,
Nicholas Orr

PS This program is really awesome kudos to the ppl you continue to work on
it.
