Luca, I'm not real sure how Caida works (or approves funding) but since its in my part of the world I thought I'd mention it. http://www.caida.org/ Perhaps Ntop could get some funding from them since it seems to be the kind of thing they want developed. (Plus you might be able to test it on very very large networks)
As I mentioned when I was debugging the Solaris installs, I'm not a C programmer but I'm willing to hack away with GDB and doing any test compiles vs Solaris you need done.
