Read the file docs/FAQ - you're trying to apply Apacheisms and it doesn't
work that way. Look for the section on 'Userids'.

Subject: [Ntop] Ntop password

I'm relatively new to the * nix world so please be gentle. I'm trying to
password protect the ntop website and don't get prompted for a password. I'm
wondering what ~/.fileextension means. I created ~/.ntop its a plain text
file with only username <1 tab> password inside. Creating ~/.ntop made the
file invisable unless I use ls -al in the /root directory.

Thanks for any advise.
