Well, I then tried installing the pre-built 2.2 RPM.

It complained slightly about (I think) libpthread, so I loaded
glibc-2.3.2-4.80.6.i686.rpm and friends. Still no joy. The third
frame (where all the data is displayed) is still blank.

So I updated zlib - grabbed zlib-1.1.4-8.8x.src.rpm, and built/
installed the two rpms that were produced.

Still no joy. I'll try your suggestion now, maybe I'll have
better luck... (me goes away and does stuff)

No go - built with included zlib, built with zlib from 8.0, built
with zlib from Rawhide. Seems to build fine every time, but all
attempts to load that frame seem to produce:

ntop[5378]: **WARNING** gzflush error -2(stream error)

Is there any way (I didn't notice one in configure) to disable zlib
compression?

Best regards,

Dave
