Off hand, nothing obvious on the OS fingerprinting - check the log and see if it's successfully reading the files (might have to try --trace-level 5 to see all the messages). -D --domainxyz.com sounds wrong - what's the -- for? Try it without... Actually, there are more than 2 processes - RH hides the processes it uses for threads unless you give ps a parm (it. might be -m, but man ps to check). With NPTL in RH9, any knowledge about how it 'works' is suspect. Especially with LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1, which hacks the NPTL stuff back to the old linuxthreads implementation... -----Burton -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Colby Reed Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2003 2:10 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Ntop] No OS fingerprinting or domain stats from 2.2.2 version downloaded from CVS Gentelmen, As this is my first posting to the NTOP forum, let me begin by saying thank you - NTOP is an excellent tool! I have recently downloaded and installed the latest and greatest, v2.2.2, via CVS. The problem I'm experiencing is OS fingerprinting and domain stat reporting. It is running on a P-III 500 w/ 384 megs of RAM and a 9 gig drive on RedHat 9. Everythings works well (not OpenSSL though- thanks Red Hat :-) ) with the exception of OS fingerprinting and domain stats. Version 2.2 ran very well after using LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 upon startup which I also use for v2.2.2 at startup. I downloaded 2.2.2 from CVS following the instructions posted on sorceforge - CVSROOT=, mkdir my_ntop_goes_here, etc. After that I did a ./configure, make, and make install from the my_ntop_goes_here/ntop" directory. I changed the /usr/share/ntop folder and file permissions to the ntop user so the databases could be a! ccessed and started ntop using "LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 ntop -P /usr/share/ntop -u ntop -o -D --domainxyz.com". The results were success - v2.2.2 came up fine with the exception of OS fingerprinting and domain stats. Is there something that I did wrong or could this be a bug? I've also noticed that ntop starts two processes upon startup now which it didn't do while running v2.2; I'm not sure what I did to cause that :) ...any assistance is greatly appreciated..
