No worries... Sometimes even the wrong answer is the right hint! I can't imagine why invoking pcap_open_live() with the promiscuous setting would FLIP things, but I'm glad you got it straightened out!
It just shows why I ask people to give the 'full story', even things that seem extraneous, especially stuff like distribution, release, and other programs that work or fail.
