It's not wasting, it's using them to store rrd databases. ntop tracks every host it sees - both local and remote. So if you're hosting P2P servers, running nmap probes, etc. you can create a lot of hosts... Either turn off the plugin if you don't want it, or use the configuration parameters on the plugin to:
