Hello: I am looking to build a single Ntop PC for monitoring the Internet traffic on a smaller LAN. Our maximum speed would probably be T1 speeds, although we may occasionally use it to monitor our internal 100BaseT traffic. Our primary goal is stability. We will probably be putting this on a spare laptop (600 to 800 MHz).
I will probably be using Red Hat Linux as the OS, since I am most familiar with it (aside from Win32). Does it matter what version of RH I install? Do some versions seem more stable than others? I installed Ntop some time last year on an underpowered system, and it seemed pretty stable. I am willing to try other free OSs, perhaps some BSD or another Linux distro, if I have good instructions on building Ntop. I don't want to fight an uphill battle compiling either. Perhaps Luca or Burton know which OSs get the most attention (i.e. bug fixes) during development. Is Red Hat my best option? Any opinions or experiences? Thanks in advance! - Will C. _______________________________________________ Ntop mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://listgateway.unipi.it/mailman/listinfo/ntop
