Hi all,
due the absence of the Debian package for recent ntop versions,
last week I worked at the new multibinary packaging system for ntop,
which is still aplha but quite usable (I have ntop*.deb but I want to test
them before to release the scripts).

I am now just cleaning the sources and the makefiles and performing
basic installation tests on a Debian machine.

I hope to finish in a couple of days and put in cvs my work.

The new version is for multibinary packages including:
  1. libntop ntop C Library: Shared and Run-time Libraries
  2. libntop-dev ntop C Library: Static and Development Libraries with Header Files
  3. libntop-dbg ntop C Library: Debug Static Library
  4. ntop-data static HTML pages and graphics used by classic 'ntop'
  5. ntop-plugins  ntop's plugins (shared libraries)
  6. ntop the 'classic' ntop that sports an embedded web server

The starting point of the new packaging system was the 'official' release
by Ola Lundqvist <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and Dennis Schoen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

I patched their superb work to compile ntop-3.0pre1 and latest
ntop's sources from cvs too.

Under ntop's cvs repository you will found two new directories:
 1. packages/debian.official
 2. packages/debian
    (Please consider it as 'unofficial' because
     I have no time to become the new maintainer)

To create the Debian package using the Official scripts you have to do:
$ cvs update
$ fakeroot make -f packages/debian.official/rules binary
$ mv ../ntop_3.0pre1-1_i386.deb packages/debian.official

[ps. I will add an entry to the main Makefile.am to this for you]

Please note that this works with ntop-3.0pre1.tgz from a SourceForge
mirror and not with the ntop's source from cvs you are working with.

When I will release my own new scripts what you have to do
to create the ntop's packages will be simple:
$ cd packages/debian
$ make

I am looking for volunters who want to test the stuff.
I you have spare time so please try.....

/rocco
