RE: [Ntop] Collect traffic from LANUsually it's the switch - read the discussion in docs/FAQ.
Where it gets dicey is that most modern 'hubs' are really switching hubs, where small sections (a few ports) get switched together. Most dual speed 'hubs' are really two hubs (a 10 Mbps and a 100 Mbps) w/ a switch connecting them. If you need to monitor both 10 and 100 Mbps segments, you need two NICs. -----Burton -----Original Message----- From: Nick Weaver [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Nick Weaver Sent: Wednesday, August 25, 2004 9:59 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [Ntop] Collect traffic from LAN ? I have 3 networks separated by T1 links, and one server that I like to track. On a switched network, I use old fashioned 3Com Super stack Hubs. I got Network switch->Hub (NTOP/NPROBE box and Server). On the wan links/Gateways I go from Router/Telco equipment to Hub (NTOP/NPROBE) to switched network. I even have IP Addresses assigned to the NTOP box. I tried port mirroring, but had some problems, and was too lazy to figure out if it was OS (RH9) related, switch (Dell GB switch) or NTOP related. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] on behalf of Burton M. This has been discussed on-list (although I don't remember the thread well enough to point it out - search for 'unnumbered interface', maybe) and there's some stuff in docs/FAQ. -----Burton > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of > Lawrence- Daltron > Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 2004 10:36 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [Ntop] Collect traffic from LAN > > > Hi, > I have a internet server serve as a gateway to local network. > Due to memory problem, I couldn't install NTOP on gateway.
