Right now I am using NTop to monitor our border VLAN. This VLAN sits between the internet and our internal network. Should I only monitor transmits packets, receive packets, or both? The NTop box is plugged into a Cisco Catalyst 6509. I am looking to monitor the percent of traffic from hosts and protocols and I don't want duplicate packets skewing the results. I also don't want to miss a lot of the traffic either.
