hmm, from a quick look that i took at it, it seems like this xtra version
claims to be a tuned version of your win32 ntop. or is it just a knock off ?
more like the second though... read on.

http://www.openxtra.co.uk/products/ntop-xtra.htm

on their page:
quote:
=========
ntop is a high quality open source flow analysis tool released under the GNU
General Public License. NTop-XTRA is available for immediate download and
runs on Microsoft Windows.
========
at least they link back to www.ntop.org .... its a bit easy to miss the link
though, AS IT DOESNT SAY anywhere on that page that they adopted it from
someone else and its not their child.

only that thing... released under the GNU GPL and that ntop xtra is
available for download..blabla... anyone might jump to the conclusion that
they made it and they released it under the GPL out of the goodness of their
hearts.
/sarcasm

and their so-called documentation there is only a link to ntop.org and
winpcap, do they expect that Luca would provide support for a modified
version ?

http://www.openxtra.co.uk/downloads/3_16_0/NTop-XTRA/Source/NTop_XTRA_Source_3_16_0.exe_removethis

i downloaded the source code there but i didnt run that damn thing.
it is packed in a self-extracting format that winrar (v3.41) doesn't
recognize, and who the heck would deliver source code in .exe format ?
I wouldn't!
this looks VERY FISHY to me. i added "_removethis" to the urls so that you
dont accidentally download and run it. might be risky.

Adrian

Thank goodness for that - the througput display is critical to us.

Umm suppose it should be main line under "All Protocols" as previously.

Backing code is still there - where do you think they should go in the tree?

class="leftmenuitem"> target="area">Activity

Also what has happened to the "All Protocols" menu options i.e Traffic,
Throughput and Activity - they seem to be totally missing.

I have isolated a particular issue in usage of the drop down menus which
actually can be easily rectified.

When moving the mouse down from the IP menu to Summary -> Traffic, it is
easy to "slip" to the media menu when "dropping down"

This is because the Word "IP" is so short and one tends to move the mouse
diagonally downwards left to right anticipating the "summary" then "traffic"
drop down. If you can change The word IP or just make the top line block
bigger then the slip into media would not so easily happen.

I hope the above makes sense and that due consideration is given to this
problem.

Sincerely

Mark

Just compiled ntop 3.1RC1

Drop down menus - Yuk!

Obviously the above is a personal viewpoint but is there any CLI switch to
go back to the more traditional 2 line layout?

Drop down is awkward and clumsy to use IMHO.
