It's a good idea, especially if you are
monitoring outside of a firewall. ntop can connect data through
an unnumbered interface (no IP assigned), which limits the possibility of
attacking ntop through that interface.

Subject: [Ntop] installation
I have downloaded
NTOP and I am installing it in my network. When installing network devices on a
Cisco network I usually have to put the port into Monitor (SPAN) mode. Does
NTOP require one port for gathering data and another for
administration?
