>From docs/FAQ:

Q. How do you reset Admin password if we lost it?
A. Delete ntop_pw.db and follow the procedure in docs/1STRUN.txt

Besides being in the source, docs/FAQ is available from ntop in the About |
Help page:

FAQ
As part of the source distribution, an 'ntop FAQ' is in the docs directory.
An automated (and therefore not terribly well formatted) version from the
source used to create this ntop installation is available here.

Thanks Burton.

I can't find these on the ntop.org website, nor in the software distribution
nor on the application webpage :( I looked under the docs section of
http://www.ntop.org/ntop.html but the only useful thing it lists is the ntop
man page, which meantions the -A option but not how to use it. So I took a
guess as shown below but got it wrong.

(I have moved the password dB file)

# ntop -A
segmentation dump

Added -A to ntop.conf:
# /etc/init.d/cswntop start
No password database !

# man ntop
Nothing there as the file is empty.
   0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root other 0 Feb 4 14:00 ./cat8/ntop.8

There is a reference on the docs page to a Users' Guide, but as the page
says, 'it is drafted and out of date'. There is no link to the actual
document.

Do you know what the correct syntax is? I think that I might have to start
ntop in terminal mode to do this, but omitting the -d option does this so
ntop -A should be OK?

Simon.

Read docs/FAQ ...

(you can just delete the file and recreate it via the -A option)

Subject: [Ntop] How to reset ntop's forgotten admin password.

Hi there everyone,

My first post to this list and 'tis one with a silly question:

I have forgotten my admin password for ntop and need to reset it. I know
that it is inside the ntop_pw.db file, but I can't extact the password.

How would I reset it?

Many thanks,
Simon.
