Thanks Burton,

But the log messages from my previous post are while running from the command line. Is this likely to help with my daemon mode problem?

The fix for the syslog() deadlock is included in the cvs (development) version.  Give that a try.

Subject: [Ntop] PR_YEVTWHX - No packets are captured in daemon mode (long)

I would be very grateful if anyone can provide help with the following problem. Ntop runs just fine on my Redhat 8.0 gateway if I comment out the –daemon and start it from the command line with

/usr/bin/ntop @/etc/ntop.conf

but if I run it up in daemon mode, no packets are ever seen. I did as suggested in the FAQ and recompiled the latest libpcap and ntop but the result was the same. I’ve attached a complete problem report which, unless you see anything relevant to your suggestion, I recommend you remove from your reply as it’s annoyingly long.

I should mention that I’m not a complete ntop novice, I’m just trying to upgrade to the latest stable release.

Thanks in advance,

Colin
