ntop's data is stored in memory structures. Restart and it's gone. I CAN
NOT SAY IT ANY CLEARER!! Quoting docs/FAQ:

"Q1(a). Can I store data in a SQL database?
Q1(b). When ntop stops I lose all my data. Why?
Q1(c). Why doesn't the -S option work?

A. ntop used to optionally store some data in a SQL database. The code was
broken, difficult to maintain, etc. and was removed. A LONG TIME AGO.
If you are reading about this in 'some' documentation - update.

Current ntop is 3.1, which is the only version we support.

There are scripts that various users have offered to take the data dump
and insert it into a SQL database. Search the back traffic on the
mailing
   list for them.

Yes, ntop uses memory based structures to hold usage data and they are
lost
when you reset or restart ntop.

Persistent storage is in the RRD databases - there's a paper @
SourceForge
   that explains them.

There was another option for some persistence - it was -S - look down
about
5K lines in this FAQ for an article about it, "What was the -S option?"."

All historical data is stored in rrd (for which you need to enable the rrd
plugin). Read the entries in docs/FAQ and the paper @ SourceForge for how
this works.

In the current (cvs, will be ntop 3.2) the rrd plugin has the capability of
creating arbitrary graphs from any rrd, or you can install and use the full
rrdtools package.

Subject: RE: [Ntop] persistent data storage on ntop

Hi,

Excuse me, I know that this question already asked sometimes in this list
but I didn't found the solution to my problem yet.

I read the FAQ (http://www.ntop.org/faq.txt) and I have read NTOP list. I
found answers speaking about old options "-S" and "-b", but "-S" don't exist
and "-b" is other thing. I know that this options was removed in current
version.

Well, how can ntop get information stored in RRD when it start ?

When I restart the service, NTOP get following information only:

- Throughput (thptStats.html)
- Interface "Historical Data"

I need restore all information as hosts statistics (sortDataProtos.html),
hour statistics (dataHostTraffic.html), matrix (ipTrafficMatrix.html) and
others.

Can NTOP get this information from RRD ? If yes, can somebody give me a hint
how to do this or where can I find this ?

Thanks to everybody.
