I'm running ntop on mac osx 10.4.3. Most of the time when I shutdown ntop, it crashes the mac with the black screen saying to power off the mac.  Then when I try to re-start ntop, after rebooting the box I get gdbm read errors or read errors on prefsCache.db.  If I delete the prefsCache.db file it will start again with no problem.  Any suggestions how to fix this?  I tried installing ntop from source, but it can't find the gdbm.h file, then I tried to install gdbm and it crashed on the make install.  The problem is I plan to deploy the mac at a remote site where I won't have access to press the power button.
