Q1(a). Can I store data in a SQL database? Q1(b). When ntop stops I lose all my data. Why? Q1(c). Why doesn't the -S option work? A. ntop used to optionally store some data in a SQL database. The code was broken, difficult to maintain, etc. and was removed. A LONG TIME AGO. If you are reading about this in 'some' documentation - update. Current ntop is 3.1, which is the only version we support. There are scripts that various users have offered to take the data dump and insert it into a SQL database. Search the back traffic on the mailing list for them. Yes, ntop uses memory based structures to hold usage data and they are lost when you reset or restart ntop. Persistent storage is in the RRD databases - there's a paper @ SourceForge that explains them. There was another option for some persistence - it was -S - look in FAQarchive for an article about it, "What was the -S option?". etc. It should be on your ntop instance in the left most menu (if it's not, your version of ntop is very old). Also, the file (faq.html) should be in your install even if you can't read it through the instance... The version @ ntopsupport is a bit dated - http://www.ntopsupport.com/faq.html - I'll throw the latest up there in a few minutes. -----Burton -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Eli Coten Sent: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 5:20 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Ntop] NTOP Persistant Storage/RRD I know this is a very frequent question but what is the easiest way to enable the setting so that I don't loose all the data every time I reset NTop? I have tried looking through the FAQ, but on my installed NTop I just get error 404 - not found. I looked on NTOPSupport.com and I couldn't find th right bit of information - all I found out was that the -S option was broken and has been removed. Thanks very much, Eli _______________________________________________ Ntop mailing list [email protected] http://listgateway.unipi.it/mailman/listinfo/ntop _______________________________________________ Ntop mailing list [email protected] http://listgateway.unipi.it/mailman/listinfo/ntop
