Ntop doesn't 'pass' anything. All it does is see the packets.

WHAT you will see depends on the placement of the ntop sensor (i.e. the host
ntop is running on). If it's INSIDE the firewall/proxy you will see the
internal (un NATed etc) traffic. If the sensor is OUTSIDE the
firewall/proxy, then you see the NATed requests (which means odd-ball port
#s) and won't see requests served from the squid cache.

Subject: [Ntop] Ntop and Proxy

Hi Folcks:

I hope you can help me with this little problem... (sorry my english if you
cant understand me)

i have been using ntop for monitoring mi local network. This Network does
not have any firewall or proxy, thus the reports of Ntop have been clear and
very exact.
The problem is: I am auditing other net, that have a firewall (with NAT),
Proxy Squid (with username and password for web restriction), and i run the
Ntop with no results...
The program just give me internal adressing, but no trace the route for
internet, for example when i enter to yahoo.com, ntop give the route and the
load on that address and the size of download in Megabits or Kilobits... but
now nothing.
I like to know how can i pass throught the proxy and firewall (if really can
pass)... i got the pass and username to access to internet freely, without
restriccions. The local administrator give me it.

Thanks for your time. I hope you can help me. Thanks again.
