1.) perms often/sometimes are inherited from the parent directory you're
working in. It's no biggie, just change them.

2.) Can't help with compiling and linking much - that's a black art. I
do know there are numerous compiler switches and environment variables
you can use to tell it the explicit location of the libs.

Subject: [Ntop] ntop won't compile

Hi,
I'm new to this list and I have 2 questions.
1. When I unzip the file (with user root) it doesn't get the user and
group of root but of some other user and the group mysql. WHy?

2. I have an x86_64 system (AMD) running fc7 and compiling aborts
with
the message:
checking for pcap_lookupdev in -lpcap... no
             *** FATAL ERROR ***
It looks that you don't have the libpcap distribution installed.
       etc.
However: locate libpcap gives:
/usr/lib64/libpcap.so.0.9
/usr/lib64/libpcap.so.0.9.7
so the libraries are available but only in the 64-bit version.
Configure was missing but I could construct it using autoconf I don't
know if that's on purpose).
Hope somebody can give me the answers as there are no precompiled (.RPM)
distributions available for fc7 (the latest was fc5 for version 3.2).
Thanking in advance,
Joep
