Got it!!!!

Installed on Opensuse 10.3
Installed ntop and rrdtool
2 NICs - One for the PC and one for the span
IP address on PC -NIC set to my management vlan
IP address on Span card - 127.0.0.3 to vlan to the world
Set Cisco switch to monitor the vlan connection to the world from the 127.0.0.3
port

rrd and structure was not created during the installation.
Created the following directory structure
/etc/lib/ntop/rrd
/etc/lib/ntop/rrd/flows
/etc/lib/ntop/rrd/graphic
/etc/lib/ntop/rrd/interfaces

Not sure what permissions were necessary. Because of permission errors in
loading ntop, I reset the permissions on the directory structure.
chmod rrd -R 777 (not sure on this one. I'm a novice or not quite a novice
and don't have the syntax readily available)

Set the ownership to wwwrun on all the directories using "chown" utility.
Set the group membership to www on all the directories using "chgrp" utility.

Saved a backup copy of /etc/sysconfig/ntop and named it ntop.backup
Edited /etc/sysconfig/ntop to point to "eth1" and 127.0.0.3

Ntop web interface is up and working on the local machine.

Website is http://127.0.0.3:3000
Load plugins for graphincs by clicking on Plugins and selecting which ones you
want.

SO. Heres a start at documentation!!! Next is to set up the user's, remote
access. THEN saving the data.

Subject: [Ntop] ntop listening NIC

Opensuse 10.3
Ntop

Ifconfig shows 2 NIC's. One with an IP address "eth0" and one without for
listening "eth1".

Have tried

/etc/init.d/ntop start -I eth1
/etc/init.d/ntop start -M -I eth1

And multiple variations. Nothing loads the second nic for ntop.

Plugins loaded and not loaded. Same result.

Listening port is set to listen to the port going OUT of the building. On the
same Cisco 3750 switch.

Wireshark does work and is able to "see" the 2nd NIC.

Any help would be appreciated . . . . and I'll tempt you with doing some
documentation for a novice Ntop user!!!
