Hi,
I'm trying to reproduce this problem for a while with no luck.

I will now try with your method.

Thanks Luca

Was there ever a solution to this?

I am having a similar problem with ntop.  When I first set it up I found that
it would run fine for random periods and then it would die for no
apparent reason.  A search of the logs indicated a segfault with either an
error 6 or error 4 but there were no other clues.  In looking through
the Ntop archives I found this thread and as a result I did some testing
which indicated that a DHCP request was indeed the reason for Ntop
failing with a segfault error message.

Ntop is on a Linux server with a static IP address.  On the same
local network there are Window XP PCs running DHCP and obtaining their
leases from an ADSL modem.  There is no mention in the /var/log/messages
of a DHCP request but whenever I do an "IPCONIFG /renew" at a DOS prompt
on an XP PC, ntop dies with a segfault. I have done this several times and it
always dies the exact second I renew.  There is no question in my mind
that either the DHCP request or the reply is creating a problem with Ntop.

The particulars of the network are as follows

Ntop Version: v.3.3.8
Server OS: Slackware 10.1
Kernel: Linux version 2.6.23.16-smp

PC OS: Windows XP Pro SP3

Local Network: 192.168.10/24
Server IP 192.168.10.36 (static)
PC IP: 192.168.10.2 (DHCP)

ADSL Modem: Actiontec GT704-WG

Typical Entry in /var/log/messages:
ntop[12888]: segfault at 00000014 eip b772191c esp b1e88684 error 4

As an aside, is there a way of searching through the post archives
other than opening each monthly archive and manually looking at each
entry?  I hate to ask a question that has already been answered but it
appears it would take quite a while to look at more than a few months
worth of postings.

Thanks. DSH
