I'm no expert in compiling apps, but sounds like the defaults aren't working too well. If you check the man/faq there are several flags you can tweak at run time that may help. Else, you may have to get the source, tweak the code lines mentioned in the errors, and compile. Most everyone runs this on Linux of somekind so maybe someone can make binaries for you if you have problems.
