Dear Gary and all,
I later tried to run ntop through gdb. While running, ntop left
a SISSEGV signal and crashed. It shows problem in util.c. I've attached
the gdb trace along with this mail. May be that will help you to understand.
Moreover, when I try to compile ntop from its source, it does
not work at all. When I run "./autogen.sh", it halts by saying
"configure: error: cannot find macro directory `m4'". The command "rpm
- -q m4" returns "m4-1.4.5-3.el5.1", that means m4 is installed. I tried
to re-download the source tarball and install it, but all in vain. The
same problem occurred.

Thank You.
