resolve.conf is just our local DNS server -- but I did not know about the custom host name trick.

But also, now that I just upgraded to teh SVN development version it seems to be reading more of the netbios names on the workstations

What's ur resolv.conf look like? Also, within the web gui you can assign a custom host name. Drill into a specific host and in the upper right corner of page will be a field/link for this.

Subject: [Ntop] Set/Override Hostnames?

Is there a way to name IP's with hostnames in NTOP? It is not reading
all the hostnames on our internal network. I tried setting up /etc/hosts
but it doesn't seem to care.
