I am pleased to announce that a new set of binaries for NTP version 4.2.5 are available for testing. The compressed tar file that contains the test binaries in package format can be found at the files page of the NTP project: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/ntp/files/
The tar file contains packages for both Sparc and x86 platforms, a README file and an install script. These binaries should work on OpenSolaris 2008.11 or later, and on most late builds of SXCE. It should be noted that this initial set of beta files have been renamed to avoid conflicts with the existing installed xntpd package. This should make it easier to test and then go back to the current version if you like. When the final files are integrated the new versions will replace the current ones and will use the same package names. To use the ntp4 service, you need to have a /etc/inet/ntp.conf file and to enable the ntp4 service. The existing ntp service must be disabled before enabling the new service. Please read the README file for further information. This set of test binaries have no known defects. The parse clock should be working now but hasn't been tested yet. This binary is also known to work with several hardware clocks, including Spectracom and clock using NMEA time codes. It has also been shown to work with a PSS signal. Please email me with any issues you uncover, or even successes at brian.utterback at sun.com Thank you. -- blu "Mark my words, nanotechnology is going to be huge!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Brian Utterback - Solaris RPE, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
