A Message from the NTCI Parents Mailing List:

Dear NT Parents & Guardians,
This morning, we had the unique and powerful opportunity for our students to
meet and hear the accounts of the Holocaust from one of its few remaining
survivors. Mr. Bill Glied was born in Subotica, Serbia (then Yugoslavia) before
World War Two. In 1944, Mr. Glied's family was deported to the concentration
camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland where they all perished in the gas chambers
or from Typhoid fever. Mr. Glied talked about the willpower and hope that
enabled him to survive the Holocaust. He was liberated by the American army on
April 29th, 1945. Today, Mr. Glied lives in Toronto and he is surrounded by
loving friends and family, and often speaks of his experiences to elementary,
high school and university students. Mr. Glied's message was of hope,
tolerance, understanding, and the difference our young people can make to
ensure a kind and caring world.
I want to thank Mr. Hobson and the Holocaust Remembrance Club for facilitating
these assemblies and tell you how proud I was of your sons and daughters who
were so respectful, mature and considerate. Mr. Glied commented on how very
impressed he was with North Toronto CI students.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Joel Gorenkoff
Principal
