School Council contact address: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Next School Council meeting: Monday February 25, 2019 at 7:30 pm in room 215 Our guest speaker will be Sue Hutton BSW, MSW on "Mindfulness Everyday". Sue studied Mindfulness meditation with teachers in Canada, the US and India since 1985. Sue received her professional training in the US in delivery of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Jon Kabat-Zinn in 2007. As a MSW, Sue has devoted over 20 years to working in social work settings with people living in marginalized communities. She has delivered mindfulness programs in schools in Toronto with the Mindfulness Everyday program "Mindful Edge", as well as leading Mindfulness groups for youth with mental health issues through a pilot project called ON Track partnered through Stella's Place and the Jewish Community Centre in Toronto. Sue has been delivering Mindfulness workshops and groups at CAMH for parents of someone with a disability, for social workers, women's centres, for parents in clinical and community settings, Sick Kids Hospital, in cancer care and also guest lectures on Mindfulness at Ryerson University and York University. Research and practice tells us that Mindfulness helps develop: social/emotional learning, resilience, self-regulation, concentration, self-awareness, kindness and compassion. All in all, mindfulness is an evidence-based practice that increases quality of life for both parents and children alike.
