Hi

Out of frustration and the need to get this server up and running

I used a retail install disk of 2008 server and then used the hyperv k
on the top of the server to activate the machine

It worked !

So how if you bought a Dell server with install media do you get hyper v
running if you don't have a retail disk ?

Anyway I know for the other servers I have to work on, just seemed
strange this key would only work with the retail media

Subject: RE: [NTSysADM] Hyperv windows 2008 keys

Hi

Did a Dell installation and put in the dell media to install windows
2008

Then joined the machine to the domain - its a files server so added this
then added hyper v

Installed the virtual 2008 server from the dell media,

Because the host is a dell and I used the dell disks its pre activated
however

The server has 2 key's 1 for the host machine and another for the
virtual machine - this key doesn't work, we also have 3 other dell
servers with virtual keys these don't work either

So Is this the media I am using? If so how do I get a copy of 2008 for a
virtual machine that I have a key for

Thanks

Did you make it a virtual machine?
Other than the Hyper-V is there anything else running?
