  Volume snapshots are not undelete.  Snapshots are a block-level
thing.  Microsoft's implementation also has a disturbing tendency to
spontaneously purge themselves unless you throw a ton of resources at
it (at least, I'm told that's the fix).  VSS is also fragile in the
face of a complex mounting scheme, we discovered the hard way.

  Volume snapshots may achieve the same end goal as undelete and file
versions, but doing it at the file level really makes more sense, IMO.
 If nothing else, an old version or delete can have a long lifetime vs
a snapshot system that would rotate more often due to high-churn
files.
