15 seconds between actually entering the credentials and until the desktop
is displayed?

What is the average time now?

I found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179365 but it has not been updated

since 2006; while I have no reason the info has changed since then I can't

guarantee that it hasn't. Since you're on limited bandwidth here is the
relevant part:
===================
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
<Logon Prompt>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
StartUp Folder
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
With the exception of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\...\RunOnce key, all keys and

their entries are loaded asynchronously. Therefore, all entries in the
RunServices and RunServicesOnce keys can potentially run at the same time.
==================

I also found a tool which I'm going to play with you may find useful:

Subject: [NTSysADM] Order of logon items

I've a client who've tasked me to bring their logon time down to 15
seconds
or under (I've done it before, its possible)

I was wondering if it was documented anywhere the order of items applying
in
a logon? For instance, is there any specific timing to when, for instance,

the shell starts, the Run part of the Registry is processed, the Startup
section of the Start Menu is processed?

Apologies for not Googling this, but I'm stuck in a hospital with no 3G
coverage
