I think that's a great idea.  If only they could do that with the desktop
computer.  Then we'd have a system we could keep forever, only upgrading the
parts we needed/wanted along the way.  And since the vendors would
cooperate, they would always be compatible with each other and combine to
form stable , secure systems ..

Frankly, this is an idea whose time has arrived. I would absolutely support
this if it were available (and I'm lending social media support to it now).

 

Will the vendors support it, though?
