This may not be related at all, but does the user have read permissions at each level of the path to the file? So for instance, if the file is at \\server\share\organization\department\project1\project1.docx<file:///\\server\share\organization\department\project1\project1.docx>, if the user does not have permissions to let's say "organization", but does have access to "department", we have seen situations where this has caused problems.
Also, do you see this delay if you map a drive to the folder and attempt to open it from there (this is also a workaround if you cannot change the permissions to allow at least read access to "organization" above)? -Aakash Shah From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jimmy Tran Sent: Friday, January 3, 2014 7:42 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [NTSysADM] Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file transfer latency Hi All, I previously posted a message about slow file opening and saving in office 2010 between W7 and Server 2k8r2 but had no replies. I did further testing and it seems to occur more than just office files. It occurs with any "opening" or "closing/saving" of files on the server. Once it is opened, it works fine. There was a hotfix that was supposed to resolve this issue, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981711, but I couldn't even get that installed. I follow some other posts and disabled SMB 2.0 of my W7 client. The latency went away. Ideally, I'd like to have SMB 2.0 enabled. I'm sure someone here on this board has had this issue? Can anyone shed some light on what they did to resolve this? I'm about ready to open a support case with MS but I thought I'd try this team one more time. Thanks, Jimmy
