I was trying to run a backup (3rd party) on my 2012r2 server finance share
and the app crashed ,
After the second crash I noticed the eventlog;
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the
IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied.
. This is often caused by incorrect security settings in either the writer or
requestor process.
I then did a test back on a different share , the users home shares (same
server , same volume)
and as expected it went fine.
The user account used to run the backup is in the local admin group of the box,
so I'm curious to know which security setting is missing from the finance share
causing the VSS to crash
