The bad news is I have a VM - W2K12 that I can't get to boot. (My question is
at the bottom just telling you everything I have tried first)

More good news is that it is a development machine so fortunately come Monday
morning we won't be loosing transactional business but internal productivity
will be impacted.
So from what I can tell the host machine crashed and this was the only VM
running at the time. After reboot the host machine seems fine and the other
vm's all start and run fine.

So specifically it boots then says an error occurred and reboots.

I have tried repeatedly and none of the boot menu option work i.e.:

Safe Mode -- No Go
Safe Mode Command Prompt -- No Go
Repair Windows -- No Go
etc.

By no go I mean it tries but in the end crashes.

One thing that I can get to reveal something is to select the option to not
reboot after an error.

When I do that I get:

BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO I googled that and got several paths but none proved
fruitful. Seems to be the consensus though that this type error and behavior is
a registry problem. I remember (perhaps incorrectly) back in the 2008 R2 days
that one could reinstall core files from the installation media. So I cracked
that out and gave it a whir but nothing like that exists now. (Sorry this
SysAdmin stuff is not my main thing....fortunately for the company) Finally I
tried copyinh the files from regbak per these instructions to no avail. While
all this was going on I began spinning up a new vm as a backup in case this
went nowhere. The new machine is now online and I am going to move forward with
it.... HOWEVER...on the old machine I have some data I would like to get back.
Here's the question:Specifically this was a dev box for CRM 2013
customizations. Now I was able to mount the vm disk as a second drive on
another vm and peruse the contents no problem. I could take sql data files to
another server and attach no problem so the disk seems to be in good order.
What I am after is specifically one or two crm solutions that have not been put
into source code yet. What would be best is to get the os to load and crm
services to start. I could export the solutions to disk. I can grab them off
there and then it could die forever as far as I am concerned. So any ideas or
additional troubleshooting etc. that might help me get this sucker running for
10 minutes tops would be greatly appreciated.TIAJB
