We've been using Thinstation for this sort of thing

Our clients (at least the more modern ones) are actually set up to PXE boot
to bring down the Thinstation OS. We strip out pretty much everything from 
the PC (hard drive, disconnect any CD or floppy, etc) and set the bios to
PXE boot. There's some configuration on the DHCP/TFTP server, but that's 
about it.
