*Question*: Why do you deem it as bricked?  It's not like it wouldn't
function if they paid for a license later...

*Observation*: A person paying for the service has not *bought* the
hardware, anymore than a person leasing a car has bought the car.

It is not necessary to like the licensing options, but it is necessary to
accurately describe them.
