I read the article yesterday night and what it said about SSD drive with warning not coming back up after a reboot bring back sad memory
2 months ago, my data drive (non SSD) started reporting bad sectors and the SMART viewing software I was using recommended immediate backup before the drive failed completely in the coming 2 weeks... So, full backup on an external drive, go buy a replacement, bigger drive, power-off the PC, replace the disk, reboot... and Nothing. The System drive (non SSD also) never came back, not even visible in the BIOS... Even if there was, in principle, no data on the system disk, it's crazy how many thing get created in the C drive.... And all my software sources with licenses were on it too So, if it start failing, backup everything, including the system disk!!! PS: Don't ask me what was the SMART software I was using, it's still on the C drive!!! :o( De : [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] De la part de James Button Envoyé : 17 juin 2014 12:53 À : [email protected] Objet : RE: [NTSysADM] RE: Consumer SSD endurance test reaches 1 PB Unless I missed something - the failure into not accessible mode rather than read only would be very annoying. Then again as the drives seem to function well past their expected lifetime, and warnings it's not likely to be a disaster for users. Me - on a busy day I may see 30GB written - so 300TB is 10000 days, or 30 years of 'busy' every day! Crystal Disk Info is very popular in the enthusiast sector.
