Subject: [NTSysADM] Instant messaging w/"broadcasting" ability

Greetings!

A few years ago, we were a Lotus Domino shop. In addition to Notes for email,
we had IBM Sametime for instant messaging.

Sametime allowed our staff to broadcast an announcement to all staff or to
selected groups (defined in Domino) within the staff.

A couple of years ago, we moved from Lotus to hosted Exchange. Instant
messaging became Microsoft Office Communicator Service and/or Lync. We lost
our ability to broadcast announcements, etc to mail distribution groups within
Exchange. (Apparently, individuals can create their own IM groups and
broadcast to those, but getting each staff member to do so is simply not going
to happen.)

Our poison control center staff needs to be able to broadcast announcements,
requests for consulting, etc. One of our former employees developed a Java
application for doing this.

With numerous Java updates, this application has been breaking on some
workstations. (It broke on mine nearly a year ago, but I've been able to do
without it. Not so most of our staff!)

Any recommendations for an instant messaging application which will allow
announcements, etc to be broadcast to centrally-defined groups and not
interfere with MS Lync/OCS, Exchange, etc?

Thanks!
