  I usually do, too.  I also usually have Process Explorer open.  But
I haven't been able to do much of anything useful with them when this
particular failure mode occurs.  :)

  But... SMSS should stay at the same PID all the time, so I can try
prep'ing a TASKKILL for it.  Worth a shot.

  Interesting.  OK, I'll give TASKLIST/TASKKILL a try next time, then.
