We used to push out ODBC settings using AppSense, but it would also fail with an odd error. The only way to do it was configure them on the machine first, and then copy them out.
To this end, I'd expect in your situation the best thing to do would be a Registry export from a preconfigured machine, and then the relevant import on your target endpoint. You may need to do some Process Monitoring if anything seems absent.
